Tulip Snakes, also known as Flower Snakes, are daytime entities in Lethal Company.

When a tulip snake latches onto an employee's head, they can start flying and control the flight similar to using a jetpack.

Bestiary[]

Tulip Snakes
Sigurd's danger level: 1%
Scientific name: Draco tulipa
Tulip snakes, or tulip lizards, are a type of flying lizard which are easily distinguished by their long arms and wings, which can reach twice the size of other members of their genus (Draco) and sport unusually bright colors and patterns. Their name comes from the flaps under their neck and behind their head, which resemble large flower petals. (Their other unusual characteristics include an extra pair of eyes and a deeply forked tail.)
Their behaviour is stubborn and fearless to a fault. Indeed, tulip snakes will rarely flee a predator. But ironically, many biologists theorize that their flowery appearance aids them more as a camoflauge than an intimidation display. It also takes an important part in their elaborate courtship rituals, which are more similar to that of birds.
Uniquely, lifting heavy and large objects into the air has often been observed as a part of the tulip snake's mating display; they are capable of carrying rocks and plants at least twice their size in an effort to impress their potential mate. Protective, jealous, and in a frenzy, the males may end up tug-of-war fights over objects they take a liking to, which can even include other living creatures.

Behavior[]

Roaming[]

After spawning, tulip snakes will roam similarly to manticoils. Occasionally, they will fly from one area to another. When a tulip snake discovers an employee, it will continuously make quick attempts at pouncing on the employee until it successfully latches on to the employee's helmet.

Up to 5 tulip snakes can simultaneously carry the same employee. Each tulip snake will add around 3lbs of weight to the employee. Having the maximum of 5 tulip snakes will add roughly 16lbs.

Carrying[]

Once more than one tulip snake has latched onto an employee, they will randomly be forced into the sky for about 10 seconds, before falling back down to the ground. Whenever a tulip snake is not attempting to fly away with an employee, the animal will curiously gaze down at the employee, obstructing a small part of their vision. While a tulip snake is latched to an employee, said employee will be able to hear the tulip snake's chirping, or "chuckling" call occasionally.

Employees with tulip snakes latched to them can immediately kill all tulip snakes currently on them by waving around a shovel, stop sign, or yield sign. However, this will cause employees to instantly lose their flying ability. However, doing this is generally not necessary as tulip snakes will eventually grow tired of trying to lift their target, leaving after several tries.

Once a tulip snake releases the employee it is attached to, or if the employee it is latched to dies, the tulip snake will return to their roaming phase.

Strategy[]

Flying[]

Novice players may believe that tulip snakes will cause a lot of trouble due to their habit of carrying employees around, but in fact, they can be used to your advantage as long as you know how to use a jetpack. As well as the fact that you can land as needed by killing all tulip snakes that are carrying you with weapons at any time.

Disambiguate[]

Due to the tulip snake's nature of latching onto employees, it can cause a misunderstanding for employees on Ship Duty. Because the radar pips corresponding to tulip snakes displayed on the monitor move synchronously with employee icons, employees on ship duty may misunderstand this situation as:

To distinguish the above situations, the size of radar pips can be compared to rule out other entities. Due to situations such as these, it is strongly recommended to discuss cues to determine whether teleportation is necessary with your crew before starting a game session. As an example, employees in the facility can spin in circles when they need to be teleported, relaying the message to employees on ship duty (although this isnt the best relay strategy due to maskeds occassionally spinning in circles to make the player on the ship think the masked player is still alive and needs teleporting).

Notes[]

  • Tulip snakes can access the Interior if an employee one has latched onto enters through the main entrance or fire exits.
    • The behavior of a tulip snake while indoors is identical to its behavior outside. While inside, tulip snakes can even open doors and leave through the main entrance or fire exits.
    • If tulip snakes lift an employee into the fan of the main room of factory interiors, the employee being carried will be decapitated by the fan, killing both employee and tulip snake in the process.
  • When Tulip snakes attach a Employee, the Employee will prevent from Snare Flea's snaring.
  • Tulip snakes may die from the following non-player attacks:
  • If the player flies into the ship, the tulip snakes will detach and the player will lose health.
  • Tulip snakes have three varieties of which they can spawn: red, blue, and yellow.
  • The scientific name referenced in the tulip snake's bestiary entry, Draco-tulipa, roughly translates to "Dragon tulip" in Latin.
  • The Tulip snake is the first entity that can be brought outside and inside. The second being the Maneater
