The Company Monster is a special entity in Lethal Company.

It is the Company representative that lives within the Company Building. Employees will meet the company monster when they sell their scrap to meet the quota.

Behavior[]

General Information[]

The Company Monster's behavior is based on the noises that it perceives, emitted from the Bell or any other source, including voice activity from employees. There are three different types of Company Moods that all change how the monster behaves and it is chosen at random every time the ship lands on Gordion, although the most aggressive type will spawn before the crew has fulfilled their first quota.

Company Mood Irritability Starting Patience Sensitivity Judgement Speed Max Player Kills Monster Type
Agitated 0.8 2 0.6 2 2 Tentacles
Silent Calm 0.4 3 0.7 5 1 Tentacles
Snoring Giant 0.5 2 0.25 3 1 Tentacles

After enough noise is produced, the door will open and the items will be sold automatically after a short delay. If the employees produce enough additional noise after the door is already open, the company monster has a chance to attack. The time it takes for the company monster to lose patience and attack is dependent on the monsters irritability. Before the attack, it will always emit a deep rumble as a warning sign. After the 3 second long attack, there is a pretty long cooldown until the door is able to open again.

Noise Detection[]

The company monster always starts asleep and with the door closed. Every time a noise is detected, the timer to open the door is decreased. The noise can originate from the bell or from any other source. This subtracted value is multiplied by the noise loudness and divided by the player count (i.e. The more players, the longer it takes for the monster to open the door). The noise also causes the patience level of the monster to drop.

Patience Level[]

The company monster's starting patience level is based on the company mood. The patience level determines how likely the monster is to attack players and how long it takes to open and close the door. The monster's patience level drops every time a noise is detected. This patience level drop is multiplied by the loudness of the noise and the current company's mood irritability. The higher the irritability, the faster the patience drops. There is a 1 second cool down before the next patience level drops can occur.

Once the patience level dropped below 1, the monster starts emitting deep growling sounds to warn the employees that it is about to attack. This noise, like every noise the monster makes, can vary based on the company mood.

Attack[]

Once the patience level drops below 0, every following noise has a 50% chance to cause the monster to come out and attack.

Depending on the company mood's Max Player Kills, the monster can kill more than one player before retreating and adding 6 to its patience level. One second after the attack, the door closes again.

Selling[]

After the monster takes the scrap, it starts evaluating the items, which takes a variable amount of time. This time delay is defined by the company mood's Judgement Speed.

There is a 30% chance that the monster attacks immediately after the scrap is evaluated if the average scrap value was smaller or equal to 3 (meaning something of no value is sold) and the patience level is below or equal to 2. If this does not happen, the patience level is raised by 3, the door is closed and a voice line is played on the speaker. If the total value of the scrap sold is less than 25% of the crew's current credit amount, a "bad job" sound is played, otherwise a "good job" sound is played.

Speaker Voice Lines[]

There is a ~3% chance a rare voice line is played instead of a normal one.

Default Voice Lines Rare Voice Lines
"Your work keeps the company happy."
"We need you. *glitch*"

Notes[]

  • Though this entity has no canon name and is only referenced as CompanyMonster in the game files, many members of the Lethal Company community affectionately call the Company Monster Jeb.
  • If the Company Monster kills and drags an employee inside, the crew will not be able to teleport the body back to the ship or retrieve the standard player body payout (5 c).
  • Although risky, it is possible to avoid death by crouching in the right spot when the Company Monster attacks.

Trivia[]

  • Bears a thematic, physiological, temperamental, and positional similarity to Jub'borith, another eldritch monster dominating an interplanetary corporation named The Company.
  • The Company Monster could possibly be the "great beast" that ate what's known as the golden planet.
  • It is currently unknown what happens to the scrap or the employees that were collected by the Company Monster.
  • Sigurd believed that the entire point of The Company was simply to feed the company monster scrap and keep it satisfied after it was trapped inside the concrete building.
    • This is also suggested by one of the rarer voice lines that the speaker emits; "These walls can not contain"
