Spore Lizards, also commonly known as Puffers, are shy entities in Lethal Company.

Spore Lizards are the only entity to be scared of you, and when you approach one, it gets scared and begins to frantically back away and hide from you. They will not hurt you unless you corner it, where then it will release its pink spore from its tail, causing the surrounding area to go foggy, and then it may begin attacking you.

Scientific name: Lacerta-glomerorum
Colloquially named Puffers or Spore Lizards, Lacerta-glomerorum (of the family Alligatoridae) is one of the largest and heaviest reptiles. Despite their large mouths, they are herbivores and do not have a strong bite. The bulbs on their tails are believed to secrete a chemical which attracts and accelerates the growth of the fungus species Lycoperdon perlatum, which it can then shake to release spores as a defense mechanism--an unique example of a mutualistic symbiotic relationship.
Spore Lizards have a very timid temperament, avoiding confrontation if at all possible. If their attempts at threat display are not effective, they may attempt to attack. It is therefore not recommended to corner or chase one. There are historical records that Spore Lizards were at least partially domesticated hundreds of years ago, however this effort was set aside by an initiative to harvest their tails for their medicinal properties.

Behavior[]

They are mostly docile, only harming players if they are actively threatened or pursued.

Strategy[]

These catfish-like creatures roam through dungeons, opening their enormous mouths in an attempt to intimidate any players that enter their line of sight. However, the display is mostly a bluff as Spore Lizards are generally harmless. They slowly retreat into the shadows unless they are cornered. In such a situation, the Spore Lizard will release pink fumes from its tail which, while impairing visibility, does not damage the player. They can also bite when approached, but their bites inflict only a small amount of damage; these creatures mostly function to startle players. In conclusion, do not get fooled by its terrifying appearance, roar, and abilities.

Overall, they are a very low threat, and will not attack unless you approach them.

Trivia[]

  • The scientific name Lacerta-glomerorum translates to lizard groups, or lizard of groups. Since spore lizards do not naturally spawn in groups, it could be referring to the spores the creature grows.
  • The spore lizards are of the same family as real world alligators.
  • Spore lizards make a sound quite similar to a real-life rattlesnake, also having a similar tail.
  • Spore lizards seem to be a slight reference to Zombie strikers 3 with a zombie enemy looking very similar to the design of the spore lizard
