The Radar-booster is an item in Lethal Company primarily used by the person on Ship Duty. When deployed, it acts like an extra camera point, and can be switched to like a player. Unlike a player, it cannot be teleported back to the ship. Each Radar-booster has its own name, which can be seen from the monitor while it's deployed or by scanning it.
Ping[]
From the Terminal, typing PING [Radar-booster's name] will make the chosen booster say "Hello!" This functions like any other player-triggered sound, e.g. it can be used to lure Eyeless Dogs.
Flash[]
Added in update 45, typing FLASH [Radar-booster's name] will make the booster flash a bright light. The light temporarily stuns most creatures and temporarily blinds any players looking at it. This makes Radar Boosters a somewhat less effective "stun weapon" to Zap guns and Stun grenades.
Flash Effects[]
A list of creatures reactions to the booster's flash; listed in order of effectiveness.
- Forest Keepers are highly vulnerable to them and drop any player they're carrying.
- Jesters are temporarily stunned in both Box and Hunt modes. Hunt mode's acceleration resets each time the Jester is flashed.
- Snare Fleas will immediately detach from players' heads and be stunned for several seconds when flashed, and will immediately retreat if flashed while hunting on the ground.
- Masked are stunned by the flash, and it can interrupt the conversion process.
- Thumpers are stunned by the flash. It does not appear to reset their movement acceleration.
- Coil-Heads are stunned for ~5 seconds while in hunting mode, but are completely unaffected while roaming.
- Eyeless Dogs are briefly "staggered" by its flash, but seem to immediately resume their most recent action. As the flash does not attract their attention, the booster can be set up outside the Ship to buy teammates time to step out of the way of a lunge, get on board or to close the door.
- Hygroderes are stunned by the flash. They cease all movement for several seconds and shudder violently.
- Brackens only slightly flinch under the stun, then immediately resume their hunt.
- Baboon Hawks are briefly stunned. They do not seem to steal boosters.
- Bunker Spiders and Hoarding Bugs are very briefly stunned, but immediately become aggressive once the stun ends.
Circuit Bees, Earth Leviathans, Spore Lizards, Ghost Girls, and Nutcrackers are completely unaffected.
Strategy[]
- Keeping a radar-booster at the Ship entrance serves as a great way of locating the ship through its "Ping" feature. Alternatively, the radar booster can be used as a "Forest Keeper/Baboon Hawk repellant" of sorts, as it's able to stun them using the "flash" command.
- Keeping a radar booster inside the facility/mansion next the to main entrance or fire exit can allow players on the ship to notify others of threats if any are present nearby, preventing injuries or deaths.
- By having one player bring a Radar-booster and Shovel and keeping someone else at the ship, it is possible to kill threats more easily by having the person at the terminal blind the threat as the person with a shovel fights it. This allows players to kill entities like the Thumper without the need and cost of the Zap gun or Stun grenade.
- The Bracken can be fought this way, but its resistance to the stun makes this a poor strategy.
- If you need to make a quick escape from a creature encounter, flashing the Radar-booster while it's held can be effective, but will also blind the player. If you're not careful, this strategy can easily cause the person fleeing to die to an environmental hazard or run into a different threat.
- Taking advantage of Hoarding Bugs' endless desire to expand their nests, a radar booster can be given to one in order to track down its nest, which may already have scrap it collected over time.
- By using the "Flash" command in the terminal, the Radar-Booster can be used against Jesters to make them take almost double the amount of time to wind up, if the command is spammed continuously.
Misconceptions[]
- Some people incorrectly believe that the "flash" command only stuns Coil-Heads, due to poor wording on past wiki articles and their Bestiary description.
- Some people incorrectly believe that the "ping" sound can be heard from anywhere around the map. Although the Radar-booster can be pinged regardless of its location, the sound itself has a limited range, and cannot be heard by players far enough from it.
Controls[]
In-Person Controls:[]
- [LMB] - Turns on Radar-Booster and enables it to activate inside-ship commands.
Terminal Controls/Commands:[]
- ["Ping (Radar-Booster name)"] - Pings the Radar-Booster and emits a strong sound with a rather large hearing range.
- ["Flash (Radar-Booster name)"] - Causes the Radar-Booster to emit a blinding/deafening flash of light which stuns enemies and blinds crew members.
Trivia[]
- All Radar-Booster names are randomly generated, and are chosen through a pool of base names: Alberts, Betty, Billy, Blue, Bobbie, Brody, Daryl, Freddy, George, Gilbert, Igor, Kablam, Louie, Sam, Seth, Susie. Duplicate base names are given a number at the end, like Kablam2.
- The Radar-Booster's model is taken from one of Zeekerss' older games, It Steals.
