Earth Leviathans, also known as Sandworms, are massive, worm-like entities in Lethal Company.

These colossal worms lurk under the surface to avoid being seen. They constantly roam the area until they find their prey, employees. When they are attacking, a loud growling noise can be heard along with debris flying up from the ground in which they will shoot out from. If players cannot quickly get out of the way in time, then they are swallowed and eaten.

Scientific name: Hemibdella-gigantis

The reverently named Earth Leviathan, of the family Piscicolidae, is one of the largest invertebrates found around the Thistle Nebula. None have been captured, so not much is known of their biology.

They seem to behave as predators. It's speculated they can burrow as far as 40 meters underground, judging by the incredible excavations they can leave behind. They can detect even the slightest vibrations, and for this reason it's not recommended to stay still if they are nearby; that is a myth. Instead, if you hear them burrowing, retrace your steps.

Behavior

Earth Leviathans roam underground, searching for prey. When one locates prey, it centers itself on top of it and then rises up, causing the ground to rumble and rocks to burst from the earth. It then emerges and leaps high into the air, killing anything in its path, including Forest Keepers and Eyeless Dogs.

Strategy

• The Earth Leviathan will display a huge red dot on the monitor, much larger than the Eyeless Dog, Forest Keeper and Baboon Hawk.
• Earth Leviathans announce their attack with a loud, distorted growling sound and black particles rising from the ground. It is possible to sprint out of the area of attack with a fast enough reaction time and low enough weight; therefore, the best strategy is to drop heavy items (such as large axles or bottles) and run away.
• Earth Leviathans' attacks are separated into two parts. The growling indicates tracking of the player at its location. Only after the black particles are emitted will Earth Leviathan rise from the ground.
• Swerving seems to prolong Earth Leviathans' tracking time.
• Earth Leviathans devour every entity within the area marked by black particles when emerging from and returning beneath the ground, except the ghost girl. Loot on the ground is not devoured, but loot in any devoured player's inventory is.
• The reaction time before an Earth Leviathan attack, indicated by a growling sound, is very short. This makes it important to recognize the sound of its attack.
• Earth Leviathans can be tricked into eating Forest Keepers. This occurs only when a forest keeper is in the process of eating or chasing an employee.
• While they won't target players standing on the ship, they are capable of consuming players on the ship during an attack.
• As mentioned in the introduction, Eyeless Dogs spawn at a similar hour to the Earth Leviathan, making an encounter with both entities present quite difficult to escape.
• On moons such as Assurance, try to minimize time spent on the ground by going on top of pipes or rocks to avoid being attacked by the Earth Leviathan on the way back to the ship.

Notes

• Hemibdella-gigantis roughly translates to "giant half-leech" in Latin.
• The Earth Leviathan is the largest and theoretically the most powerful organism in the Lethal Company. It will not be damaged by any weapons, will not be under any control, and can kill all creatures, including Forest Keepers, and Old Birds.

Trivia

• Earth Leviathans may be based on two terrestrial creatures in movies. Their fast nature is reminiscent of the Graboids from the film series Tremors, and their size closely matches a smaller version of the colossal Sandworms from Dune.
