Butlers are blobfish-looking humanoid entities in Lethal Company.

Butlers roam around interiors carrying a broomstick that they use to brush the floors with. Although seemingly harmless at first, their true nature is revealed when an employee is left alone near them for a short period of time, as they will then pull out their hidden kitchen knife to attack the employee with. If a Butler is killed, they pop and release a swarm of Mask Hornets.

Behavior

It's behavior is rather passive when around multiple employees, but it becomes very aggressive when it encounters an isolated employee. When attacking, it puts its broom away and pulls a kitchen knife out of its jacket before sprinting towards its target. When killed, the Butler will inflate, pop, and drop a knife. Upon death, Butlers spawn Mask Hornets, which will attack nearby employees. If there's more than 4 players in a modded lobby, the Butler's AI will start to glitch.[1]

Notes

  • While passive, Butlers wander the interior of the facility, sweeping as they move.
  • If a Butler spots an employee while in its roaming phase, they will enter their lingering phase. While in their lingering phase, Butlers will continue to roam around, keeping close tabs on their "victim."[1]
  • Butlers will always target the closest employee. This means that if a Butler is already targeting an employee, they will switch to another target if they get closer than their current target.[1]
  • When targeting an employee, if the Butler hasn't seen another employee for 12 seconds, it will check the area for other employees, then enter the murder phase, killing its target.[1]
  • When a Butler enters the murder phase, it will put away its broom and pull a kitchen knife from inside its jacket, using it to attack the target employee. While in this phase, the butler's normal music will change to a more frantic tune.
  • After killing an employee, the Butler will clean up the blood, then run to the farthest location from the "crime scene."[1]
  • If a player attacks a Butler with a shovel, stop sign, or yield sign, or catches a Butler with the body of an employee it just killed, it will enter its berserk phase, attacking any nearby employees.
  • After losing sight of the target employee, the Butler will attempt to find the target again. While searching for their target, they will act as if they are in their roaming phase, returning to the lingering phase once the target is found once again. If the target isn't found after a short period of time, the Butler will remain in its roaming phase until a new target is found.
  • Getting too close to a Butler will cause it to attack the employee that is closest to it. They do not enter their murder or berserk phase while this happens, however.
  • Upon a Butler's death, it will inflate and pop. This leads to an explosion that can send nearby employees flying. This will also spawn in Mask Hornets at the Butlers corpse. While this explosion does not directly deal damage, it does send employees flying, similar to an Easter egg explosion, which can cause fall damage indirectly.
  • Using a Kitchen Knife against a Butler will kill them in a single hit, most likely due to the Butler's balloon-like body. Because of this, dispatching one Butler and taking its knife makes killing subsequent Butlers easier.
  • For balancing, Butlers switch from 8 health in multiplayer games to 2 health in single player games.
  • The Butler can be stunned.
  • Due to a bug, the Butler's door opening time often resets while it is attempting to open a door. This causes its door opening speed to vary wildly.
  • Although very rare, Butlers can spawn on Factory layouts.
