Apparatus, also called Apparatice, or Lung, is a special Scrap item in Lethal Company. It appears as a relatively large, glowing containment casing that emits some form of radiation.
The apparatus can only be found in storage rooms within The Factory, plugged into a large machine providing power to the building.
Once taken from its socket, the lights within the facility will flicker, terminal-operated doors will be opened, followed by all Power shutting off permanently, with a warning sent to all players about increased radiation levels. This radiation has no effect on the player.
On top of that, once disconnected, there is a 70% chance that the minimum amount of entities spawned will be set to 2 for the next spawn cycles. Turrets, Landmines and Spike Traps remain active and can still be temporarily disabled with the ship's console as normal. In addition, disconnecting the Apparatus results in all Old Birds activating immediately after disconnection.
When scanned, the Apparatus' cost will appear as "???", but the price will appear once brought to the ship.
The spawn chance of Apparatus is the same as moon's Factory spawn chance.
After Version 60 , due to the update of Mineshaft Interior, makes the spawn chance of Factory Interior lower, so Apparatus's spawn chance get lower too.
*Vow was thought to no longer spawn Factory Interior past Version 60. This is incorrect, however it is unclear if Apparatus can spawn on this moon.
Apparatus is the only scrap which appears in Lethal Company's Steam start page.
The Apparatus cannot spawn in a Mansion layout.
The name for the Apparatus in the game's code is "Lung".
The Apparatus could possibly be a form of its real life counterpart: an RTG (Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator). These are compact power sources seen in deep space probes like Voyager 1 or Cassini that convert heat from decaying radioactive Plutonium into energy.
Due to the use of highly radioactive material, it may explain the warning given to employees once it has been disconnected from its socket.
The appearance of the Apparatus could have taken inspiration from vacuum lamps.
There is a drill below the Company building's platform which appears to have 2 slots where Apparatus can be inserted, however trying to do so will do nothing, as the Apparatus cannot be attached whatsoever.
This may or may not be changed in later updates.
The Apparatus is the only item that omits its value until after you store it in the ship.
As of Version 47, the Apparatus is misspelt as "Apparatice" when scanned.
